Gum Paste Flower Tools

Whether it’s a single statement sugar flower or a full cascade complete with foliage, gum paste or sugar flowers are showstoppers at any event! Before you get started, join cake designer Rachael Teufel in this free video as she shares all the tools you need in your kit to create lifelike gum paste flowers.

First, Rachael shares her pointers on selecting a gum paste that is suited for your environment and stays pliable long enough for you to manipulate each petal before it dries out. Then she walks you though each tool—rolling pin, celboard, foam, petal and leaf cutters, silicone impressions, ball and veining tools, wires, floral tape, and wire cutters. With these tools and a little practice, you can create a variety of blooms from realistic to more fantasy-like.

Rachael shares her tips on selecting the proper type of wire and floral tape to avoid excess bulk when adhering pedals and leaves together. She also shows how to prevent the gum paste from sticking to your hand and surfaces.
