Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe

While Snickerdoodle’s have an exciting name, they have never been on my list of favorite cookies. They often appeared bland and tasteless, so I happily passed over them when there are other cookie flavors to choose from. But recently, my husband and I were invited to a dinner party and when I asked what I could bring the host excitedly offered up the suggestion of Snickerdoodles! I was thrilled by such a specific request because so often requests are vague, and I am left trying to come up with something myself. So, off I went to figure out what makes a snickerdoodle so desirable.

If you don’t know what a snickerdoodle tastes like, imagine a light buttery sugar cookie with a caramelized cinnamon sugar crust. Mmmmmm! Cinnamon gives these cookies a warm spicy flavor that pairs perfectly with a cup of tea and a good book. This recipe produces a fluffy cookie that keeps it shape and holds onto all that cinnamon sugar goodness. Give it a try and let us know in the comments if these cookies are the best Snickerdoodles you have ever had!

Ingredients

Snickerdoodle Dough

• 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 cup unsalted butter, just softened
• 1 ½ cups sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

• ⅓ cup sugar
• 2 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions

• Preheat oven to 350°F.
• In a large bowl, mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt together. Set aside.
• In a stand mixer, cream together butter (barely softened) and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and blend well.
• Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix well.
• In a small bowl, combine ⅓ cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon.
• Use a small cookie scoop to scoop out dough and roll into the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated well.

• Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
• Bake for 8 – 10 minutes. Let sit on the cookie sheet for a few additional minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

– High altitude adjustment: decrease baking soda to 3/4 teaspoon baking soda.
– Since cinnamon is the star of the show, don’t skimp on the quality. Use organic Saigon cinnamon for a bold burst of flavor!
– For a crunchier cookie bake 2-3 minutes little longer.
