Remembering Nicholas Lodge

As many may already know, the culinary world and sugar art industry lost a legend last week on Tuesday, August 9th. Nicholas Lodge was not only a dear friend, but also one of the greatest pastry chefs and master decorators of our time. He is responsible for shaping the industry of cake decoration into the creative field we know today, and his impact will never be forgotten.

Nicholas was a natural when it came to inspiring everyone he met. Those of us who have had the joy of seeing him work will remember how fiercely passionate he was about sugar art, always going the extra mile to connect with his students, impart his wisdom, and share his artistry through cake decorating. Nicholas gave his all as a culinary judge to help competition entrants grow as bakers and decorators, providing thoughtful feedback while challenging them to overcome obstacles and improve their skills.

While he achieved countless accomplishments throughout his life and career, including most recently the Industry Icon Award at the American Cake Awards, he was also passionate about recognizing emerging talent in the industry. It was clear that his commitment to teaching was unparalleled. Nicholas Lodge’s instruction and demonstration has undoubtedly helped launch the careers of so many bakers, cake decorators, and sugar artists. Through them, his legacy will live on.

The world of sugar art will never be as sweet without the talent of Nicholas Lodge, his devotion to his craft, and of course, his signature green chef coat.
