A smooth buttercream finish with straight sides is the start to almost every cake design. Join cake designer Rachael Teufel as she demonstrates how to final coat a buttercream cake after the crumb coat has been applied.

A few basic tools are needed to apply the final buttercream coating:

  • Cake decorating turntable
  • Offset spatula
  • Straight edge
  • Fresh buttercream

With lots of practice, even beginners can master Rachael’s easy step-by-step methods. Included are valuable tips on how to extend your decorating turntable and how to ensure your cake does not slide or move around while you are icing. She also shares tips and tricks on proper offset spatula angle, getting rid of air bubbles and gaps, avoiding high and low spots, and achieving crisp and clean corners. Watch and learn as she pushes and pulls the buttercream from top to bottom creating buttercream cakes that are as close to perfect as it gets!
