Intro and Design Discussion: In this lesson Rachael will show you each of the items you’ll learn to create in this class. This class starts with creating a semi-sculpted puppy cake. This style of cake takes the fear out of sculpted cakes because there is no need for sculpting if you use Rachael’s technique. Next, she’ll share the three styes of “pup-cakes” that come together quickly and easily with some simple piping techniques. And lastly, Rachael shares the three shapes of molasses cookies that are a perfect complement to this puppy cake.
Grab your cakes and start assembling your puppy. In this lesson Rachael will teach you step by step how to prepare your cakes to create the shape of a puppy. This base structure can easily be converted into several other animals with some minor tweaks in the decorating details. Rachael talks you through the necessary equipment and some substitutions to avoid having to purchase specialty items. She also shares insight on what some cakes caramelize more than others as well as how to save a little time by skipping a crumb coat with this style of cake. Next Rachael shares how to knead fondant and prepare your modeling chocolate for decorating.
In this lesson, Rachael demonstrates how to cover a sculpted cake in fondant while adding fresh buttercream under the surface for added depth. No need to stress if your fondant covering isn’t perfect because she’ll show you how to remove excess fondant and hide any imperfections. Next learn to shape and add the paws, tail, ears, eyes, snout, and nose by finding familiar shapes to guide the process. Along the way, Rachael shares tips for creating symmetrical puppy features, attaching them seamlessly to the body, and adding personality to your cake.
Here’s your chance to get super creative by making a dog tag, bow, and collar to accessorize your puppy. Additional personalization can be added to these items for extra character. Learn how to emboss a name into modeling chocolate, create a stitched texture on a leather collar, and how to shape a quick buckle. By the end of this lesson your puppy with be full of personality!
Join Rachael in this lesson to create three styles of “Pup-Cakes,” a little play on a traditional cupcake that looks like a puppy face. These “pup-cakes” come together in a matter of minutes with minimal effort. You’ll start by learning how to create quick and easy features including the noses, eyes, ears and tongues using only your hands. The first pup is an adorable poodle that takes shape using only two sizes of round piping tips. Rachael will even show you how to add a tiny bow for some added fun. Next up is a fluffy pup with lots of dimensions created with just a grass tip. He’s sure to steal your heart with all those kisses. And lastly, Rachael creates a version of a furry golden that is full of fluff and fun with a single start tip. Use these skills to make mini pups or adapt them to a larger cake for an oversized bundle of cuteness.
Rachael shares a super easy molasses cookie recipe that is similar to a ginger snap cookie and is bursting with flavor. You’ll learn to use a creaming method for a light and airy cookie that still holds its shape. Once your dough is chilled, you’ll be ready to roll it out and start personalizing. Rachael shares three ways to use this dough for a puppy themed party. First, you’ll learn how to create a traditional dog bone. Then make a larger version of a dog bone personalizing it with the name of your choice. And finally, Rachael shares an easy way to use up those scraps of dough to create some kibble so nothing goes to waste. Along the way, you’ll learn a few tips for ingredient substitution, customizing your cookies, and proper baking technique.
In this lesson, Rachael shares some fun display options for your puppy cake, pup-cakes, and molasses cookies. She’ll talk you through how to pull all of these treats together for a themed party that will be sure to make your guests say bow -WOW!

Whether you are new to cake decorating or a seasoned baker, this class is full of tips and tricks for creating an adorable puppy themed dessert table. In this class, Rachael Teufel will guide you step by step in creating a puppy cake, three styles of “Pup-Cakes,” and some tasty molasses cookies that look just like real milk bones. Sculpted cakes can be intimidating but Rachael’s semi-sculpted cake technique takes the fear out of creating 3-D shaped cakes because there is no need for sculpting. Follow her easy process and you’ll be making 3-D cakes in no time. Next, she will share three styles of “pup-cakes” that come together quickly and easily with some simple piping techniques. Once you get the hang of these three dog styles, you can create any breed of dog. And no puppy party would be complete without milk bones, so Rachael shares her favorite molasses cookie recipe and shows you how to turn this treat into realistic looking dog bones and kibble. These cookies are a perfect complement to the puppy cake and cupcakes but are great on their own as well. By the end of this class, you will be able ready to throw your own “Pup Cake PAW-ty!”
